Local appointment, global impact
Marie Stopes does a lot of really great work. But it can be confusing because there’s Marie Stopes Australia AND Marie Stopes International Australia. Which leaves a lot of people wondering “what’s the difference?”
Marie Stopes Australia (MSA) only operates within Australia. MSA provides abortion, contraception and vasectomy services across the nation. We also support people who are struggling financially to access safe abortion and contraception through the Marie Stopes Australia ‘Choice Fund’.
Marie Stopes International Australia (MSIA) doesn’t provide any services within Australia — their support office is based here, but their work really happens in countries across the Asia Pacific region, ensuring women and girls have access to sexual and reproductive health services.
Marie Stopes International Australia run great programs that help to empower women in local communities, provide business training and education to women entrepreneurs and help provide safe contraception and abortion services. Unsafe abortion accounts for 13% of all maternal deaths worldwide, so providing safe abortions, contraception and family planning services is about saving lives.
Marie Stopes International Australia uses international partnerships to help their work on community led sexual and reproductive healthcare projects that empower local leaders to make change.
Why are we telling you this?
Well, every time you book a service with MSA, you’re helping to support the work of Marie Stopes in Australia and internationally!
MSA reinvests its surplus in activities that have a social impact, such as the Choice Fund and the work that MSIA does. This means that together MSA and MSIA can provide social, clinical and advocacy support for women in Australia and in Asia Pacific.
This is called a profit-for-purpose model, and it’s our way of making sure that every dollar makes a difference.
So the next time you visit one of our clinics, you’ll know that you’re helping to support people both locally and internationally with their sexual and reproductive health needs.
